IPTC Task Force to address the Fourth Industry Revolution in a Special Session

The 4th Industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) provides and fuses many technologies to improve efficiencies and human productivity. A few examples of these technologies, include: Big Data, Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, High Performance Computing, Visualisation, Virtual Reality and Autonomous Robots.

Industry 4.0 is the current trend towards full automation and control. It is about better utilising edge data to increase the efficacy of a process. As such, it is very broadly applicable to all production and manufacturing industries and opportunities exist for lessons from otherwise very different industries to cross pollinate.

Some of the technologies and main principles of Industry 4.0 have already been or are in the process of being adopted in the oil and gas industry. This session will explore examples of where industry 4.0 can be applicable to the whole Oil and Gas lifecycle. Some examples of industry 4.0 in the oil and gas world are listed below however participants and delegates are encouraged to “think outside the box” and not be limited by these examples: 

  • Optimisation of well bore to product operations through data analytics;
  • Edge to cloud data acquisition systems;
  • Enabling technologies;
  • Reduction of unplanned downtime and Opex costs through predictive analytics;
  • Discover new prospects and perform reservoir characterisation faster and more accurately;
  • Minimise uncertainties and thus reduce the cost of the unconventional resources program;
  • Logistics tracking, SIMOPS, dynamic real-time planning and scheduling using live data;
  • Dashboarding and data to knowledge for reporting and management;
  • Improved flow assurance / process optimisation through tuned and accurate full plant digital twins;
  • Competency management through improved Operator Training Simulations / Testing environments;
  • Predict drilling problems before they happen and improve drilling safety, reliability, efficiency and help protect the environment;
  • Predictive proactive maintenance with real-time closed loop condition monitoring;
  • Optimised well placement and configuration to maximise recovery;
  • Improve field development by determining the Optimum Field Development Plan that will maximise profitability, maintain potential, and reduce cost per barrel;

  • 通过制定效益最大化、保持开发潜力及降低桶油成本的最佳油田开发方案提升开发效果。
